Brooks
Brooks Glycerin 22
- Department Men's
- Support Type Neutral
- Listed Weight 1.5 lb
Deep, forgiving cushioning and a neutral ride that make treadmill miles easier on your legs.
The Glycerin 22 gives you more shoe than its place in this group suggests. This is Brooks' neutral max-cushion trainer, and it lands at the soft end of everything we ran in: the foam under the heel swallows the belt's thud in a way the lighter, firmer pairs here cannot, and an easy indoor hour leaves your legs fresher than the same hour in a budget shoe. We expected something this plush to feel vague at pace. It does not. The landing stays predictable, and the heel collar holds the ankle without pressing on it.
Sizing is the thing to sort out before you order. The Glycerin runs small, so a half size up is the safer call for most runners, and if you are usually between sizes, take the larger one. That is the only wrinkle in an otherwise easy fit: the heel stays put, and the upper needs no breaking in before your first session.
What we appreciate most is that all that foam does not turn the shoe to mush. It is a neutral trainer, so it will not correct a rolling ankle, and anyone who needs real support should start with the Adrenaline instead. Everyone else gets the plushest landing in the group without a wandering feel underneath. The upper also looks more considered than most of this field, which does not make you faster but does mean you will not mind wearing them on the walk back from the gym.
Bottom Line
For treadmill miles and the cushioning that makes them easier, this is the pair we recommend first.
