Premier
Premier Protein Coffeehouse
- Sugar No added sugar
- Caffeine About 1 cup of coffee
- Protein Per Bottle 1.06 oz
- Vitamins And Minerals 24
The most complete bottle here: 30 grams of protein and coffee that tastes brewed.
Caramel macchiato is the first bottle we opened, and the coffee is what settled it: it tastes brewed rather than flavored, with the sweetness sitting behind the coffee instead of on top of it. Premier puts 30 grams of protein and the caffeine of a full cup of coffee in each one with no added sugar, and the texture stays creamy instead of turning chalky halfway down the bottle.
It takes the top spot because it's the most complete version of the idea here: 24 vitamins and minerals, gluten-free, and enough body to drink on its own at 7 a.m. We also like it as an ingredient. A splash stirred into hot coffee softens a dark roast, and a whole bottle poured over ice makes a convincing iced latte when you want the protein without the sugar.
What you accept for that is a higher cost per bottle than the budget picks, and the Coffeehouse line runs to two flavors, mocha and caramel macchiato. Neither bothered us in the end, because the flavor is the reason to choose this one. Chill it overnight if you can; cold keeps the sweetener in the background and lets the caramel come forward.
Bottom Line
Our default recommendation for a caffeinated protein breakfast: 30 grams of protein, no added sugar, and coffee flavor that holds up over ice.
