Gaiam
Gaiam Yoga Block 2-Pack
- Set 2 blocks
- Weight 4.6 oz per block
- Material Latex-free EVA foam
- Block Size 9 x 6 x 4 in
Two standard-height foam blocks with soft edges at a low price.
Put a hand on the Gaiam block and the first thing you notice is the give. It's latex-free EVA foam that compresses a millimeter or two under your palm instead of stopping dead the way cork does, and that softness is most of the case for it. The rest is the size: 9 by 6 by 4 inches, the height most studios stock, so the block you learn on at home doesn't move your hand in class. Two come in the pack, which matters more than it sounds.
Beveled edges look like a marketing line until you've held a block through a long set of lunge variations. The chamfer gives your fingers somewhere to sit, and the surface has enough tack to stay put under a dry hand. Soft foam has a cost too: corners scuff, the surface picks up the pattern of a grippy mat, and heavy daily use leaves dents where a cork block would still look new. Spot clean with mild detergent and let it air dry instead of dropping it back in a damp bag.
The cushioning earns its keep in the poses you hold longest — a block under the sacrum in a supported bridge, one under each hip in a long seated fold, knees propped in savasana. Hard cork under a bony wrist or a knee can feel like furniture. This one doesn't.
Buying two rather than one is the other reason this is our default: a single block runs out of uses almost immediately. Stack them for a seated fold when the floor is too far away, set one under each hand in a standing pose to bring the floor up to you, or leave the pair by the sofa for hip openers during a phone call. For less than a single premium cork block, that's the sensible place to start.
Bottom Line
The pair we tell most people to buy first: standard height, soft enough for long holds, and two blocks for less than one premium cork block.
