Three seat heights and removable legs, for anyone a standard bench doesn't fit.
This is the most expensive bench in this guide, and what you're paying for is arithmetic. It's sold in three seat heights — a low bench for sitters under about 5 feet 4, the 7-inch standard we sat on, and a high version for taller bodies — which makes it the pick for anyone who already knows a standard bench doesn't fit.
The legs pull straight out of the seat with no hardware to lose, and the whole bench drops into an organic cotton bag at 3.7 pounds. It's birch, made in Canada, and the legs seat snugly enough that we stopped thinking about the joint once it was together. Assembly is a matter of pushing two legs in.
Where it earns its keep is a long sit. The 7-inch seat has no padding at all, and that turned out more comfortable than we expected, because a bare, slightly domed surface lets you slide a little instead of sticking in one spot. Where it gives us pause is the joint where each leg enters the seat: legs have cracked there, including at weights well inside the 250-pound rating. Check that both legs are fully seated before you put weight on them, and keep the receipt.
There's no cushion, nothing adjustable beyond the height you choose at checkout, and it costs several times what our budget pick does. What the money buys is fit — and a bench sized to your body is the difference between a practice you keep and one you quietly abandon.
Bottom Line
Buy the IKUKO if a standard bench has never fit you: three seat heights and legs that come out for travel are worth the premium, provided the joints hold.
